In Mandarin in K1 we are learning to:
1, say names of pets
2, express opinions on pets
3, express wishes
4, ask simple questions using “ shen me” pattern
Learning the pets in Mandarin is not too difficult. As you may have found, most of the names of pets were made of one or two Chinese characters. In details, the words and sentences about pets are:
狗 gǒu (dog)
猫 māo (cat)
兔子 tù zi (rabbit)
乌龟 wū guī (tortoise)
鸟 niǎo (bird)
鱼 yú (fish)
仓鼠 cāng shǔ (hamster)
马 mǎ (horse)
你有没有宠物？ Nǐ yǒu méi you chǒng wù? (Do you have any pets?)
Wǒ méi you chǒng wù. (I don't have any pet.)
Wǒ yǒu yī zhī gǒu. (I have a dog.)
Nǐ xǐ huān shén me chǒng wù? (Which pets do you like?)
Wǒ xǐ huān māo. (I like cats.)
Nǐ xiǎng yǎng shén me chǒng wù? - Which pets do you want to keep?
Wǒ xiǎng yǎng yú. - I'd like to keep fish as pets.
I have made a set of cards on Quizlet (quizlet.com or download the app for phone or ipad) to help your child practice learning this topic.
Search for laoshilinda (all one word lower case) and then choose pets.
The video here explains how to use Quizlet https://vimeo.com/113241642
You do not need to know any Mandarin yourself to use any of these resources.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
