In Mandarin in G2 we are learning to:
1. Say the extened family members in Mandarin
2. Recite the family tree rhyme in Mandarin
3. Present our own extended family in Mandarin
Learning the extended family members in Mandarin is not too difficult. As you may have known, there are different ways to call one’s relatives from the father’s side and from the mother’s side. In datails, the extended family members are:
爷爷 yé ye (grandpa, dad's dad)
奶奶 nǎi nai (grandma, dad's mum)
伯伯 bó bo (dad's elder brother)
叔叔 shū shu (dad's younger brother)
姑姑 gū gu (dad's sister)
外公 wài gōng (grandpa, mum's dad)
外婆 wài pó (grandma, mum's mum)
舅舅 jiù jiu (mum's brother)
姨妈 yí mā (mum's sister)
表哥 biǎo gē (cousin, an older boy)
表姐 biǎo jiě (cousin, an older girl)
表弟 biǎo dì (cousin, a younger boy)
表妹 biǎo mèi (cousin, a younger girl)
I have made a set of cards on Quizlet (quizlet.com or download the app for phone or ipad) to help your child practice learning the extended family.
Search for laoshilinda (all one word lower case) and then choose more family members.
The video here explains how to use Quizlet https://vimeo.com/113241642
You do not need to know any Mandarin yourself to use any of these resources.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
