In Mandarin in G3 we are learning to:
Learning the names of the the food (3 meals) in Mandarin is not too difficult. As 饭 (“fàn”, meaning “meal”, “rice”)is the root word for many phrases, it is easy to connect different words and extend vocabulary. Some of the names of the food are:
早饭 zǎo fàn - breakfast
午饭 wǔ fàn - lunch
晚饭 wǎn fàn - dinner
点心 diǎn xīn - snack
麦片 mài piàn- cereal
水 shuǐ - water
果汁 guǒ zhī - juice
饼干 bǐng gān - biscuits
月饼 yuè bǐng - mooncakes
比萨 bĭ sà – pizza
I have made a set of cards on Quizlet (quizlet.com or download the app for phone or ipad) to help your child practice learning the topic.
Search for laoshilinda (all one word lower case) and then choose food-3 meals.
The video here explains how to use Quizlet https://vimeo.com/113241642
If your child can already say the names of food then:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primarylanguages/mandarin/food_and_drink/chinese_food/
will give some ideas on how to extend their vocabulary.
You do not need to know any Mandarin yourself to use any of these resources.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
