G3: vegetables

In Mandarin in G3 we are learning to:

  1. Learn the names of vegetables
  2. Make a food pyramid in Chinese characters
  3. Talk about healthy choices

Learning about the names of vegetables in Mandarin is not too difficult. As you may have discovered, there is a Chinese character 菜cài which means “vegetable”as a general term. In details, the words of vegetabls are:

蔬菜  shū cài ( vegetables)
白菜  bái cài ( cabbage)
青菜  qīng cài ( green leafy vegetable)
生菜  shēng cài ( lettuce)
菜花  cài huā ( cauliflower)
西兰花        xī lán huā ( broccoli)
西红柿        xī hóng shì ( tomato)
黄瓜  huáng guā ( cucumber)
土豆  tǔ dòu ( potato)
豌豆  wān dòu ( peas)
胡萝卜        hú lúo bo ( carrot)
白萝卜        bái lúo bo ( turnip)

I have made a set of cards on Quizlet (quizlet.com or download the app for phone or ipad)  to help your child practice learning the this topic.
Search for laoshilinda (all one word lower case) and then choose vegetables.
The video here explains how to use Quizlet https://vimeo.com/113241642

You do not need to know any Mandarin yourself to use any of these resources.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
