- Say the words of weather in Mandarin
- Ask and answer questions about weather
- Read and write the questions of weather in characters
Learning the words of weather in Mandarin is not that hard. As you may have seen, some weather words share the same root word 天 (tiān, meaning “sky”, “day”). Only the first characters are different. In details, the words of weather are:
天气 tiān qì (weather)
晴天 qíng tiān (sunny)
阴天 yīn tiān (cloudy)
下雨 xià yǔ (rainy)
下雪 xià xuě (snowy)
刮风 guā fēng (windy)
今天天气怎么样？ Jīn tiān tiān qì zěn me yang? (How's the weather today?)
今天天气很好。 Jīn tiān tiān qì hěn hǎo. (The weather is good today.)
今天你有空吗？ Jīn tiān nǐ yǒu kòng ma? (Are you free today?)
今天我有空。 Jīn tiān wǒ yǒu kòng. (I am free today.)
I have made a set of cards on Quizlet (quizlet.com or download the app for phone or ipad) to help your child practice learning this topic.
Search for laoshilinda (all one word lower case) and then choose weather.
The video here explains how to use Quizlet https://vimeo.com/113241642
You do not need to know any Mandarin yourself to use any of these resources.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
